I’m Maryanne J. George. I’m a multi-faceted artist; I sing, I write, and I play many different instruments. I’m also a worship leader who is passionate about encountering the Lord.
A little about me: I grew up in New York, the melting pot of the world. I’m the child of immigrants. Much of what I know about music comes from my family. My earliest memories are filled with songs; almost every family get-together had a time of singing, and playing instruments. I learned how to play violin at the age of 4. I taught myself piano and guitar. I am notorious for not knowing any of the chords I play. Despite this, I eventually went on to serve at my home church in Hicksville, NY, where I started as a choir member, and eventually became a worship director.
Over the years, I’ve sang songs on Youtube, and other social media platforms… I’ve also led worship at a number of events. I’ve organically built a platform of loyal listeners. But if you’re new here, you might know me from Maverick City Music – a collective of worshipers committed to deconstructing unspoken rules that exist in the CCM and Gospel world. We’ve written songs together, recorded a few albums, did a little touring, and won some awards. In October 2021, I recorded and released my debut EP, Not Just Stories. It was a grounding album, centered on the tenets of worship: surrender, devotion and sacrifice. It was a culmination of my spiritual journey with Jesus. It charted nationally. These were dreams I didn’t know were possible for a brown girl like me. But God made them happen.
I’m grateful you’re here. I hope you’ve been able to witness Jesus throughout my journey. My prayer is that my life would be an altar, and my songs, a sacrifice. He’s been good to me.
